I’ve known Nancy for awhile now, first from class reviews she helped host and later from the excellent tutoring she has provided for me. There are so many great things I can write. She is first of all an excellent tutor. She takes you through the material seemlessly. By the end of covering a topic you understand everything from beginning to end. Also, she knows exactly what is high yield for exams, and highlights these. Secondly, Nancy truly cares about her students’ success and wants us to do well. She’s happy to work around your schedule, and tailor sessions for exactly what you need. Lastly, the highest praise I can give is that I know for sure that my exam scores have gone up at least 10% due to her efforts.

“As I scrolled through the Facebook group titled, “Fall 2020 Entering Class of SGU”, I gathered as much advice regarding resources as I could fit on a post it note. My goal was to start my first term strong, and I wanted to have every resource possible bookmarked on my google homepage. The number of resources that were being offered was exciting but also mildly daunting. Not sure where to start, I ultimately started to compile the lists and while doing so I started to notice that I continued to write down the same name, Nancy. It comes to no surprise to me now that Nancy was the common variable in many student’s success, and ultimately, mine. Of course, I frantically reached out to Nancy, to this day I am absolutely positive she could hear my cries from Southern California all the way to Grenada begging for help. I will be the first one to admit it that it can take me a bit to grasp the concept, or should I say, I want to talk through it a couple of times to make sure that I completely understand it. Every time that I thought Nancy was becoming more and more irritated with me, she never was, quite the opposite rather. On my worst days, Nancy was sending encouraging messages and offering a shoulder to cry on. While working with Nancy I received my first ever 91% on a medical school exam, I was averaging 85% and I was willing to do anything to hit that 90% mark. I believe that in medical school you are not only trying to grasp the abundance of information that is being sent your way but also you are fighting against your own insecurities. The constant questions, “Am I smart enough?”, “How much longer can I take?”, “Why is everyone else just getting it?” The reason that I bring these examples up is that in medical school, you don’t just need a tutor to help you master the material but also someone who is cheering for you. Nancy is the epitome of a tutor, friend, hype woman, and most importantly, Doctor.”

“I’ve had several tutoring sessions with Nancy and I must say, she knows her stuff. Even after all this time, she teaches as if she is going to test for the material tomorrow. What I like about Nancy is that she is flexible to any style of teaching that you want, you just have to ask. If you need structure, or someone to roll through high yield concepts with you, or to do questions with, she can do it all. The other thing I really like about Nancy is that she is so attentive. If after your session with her, you realize you forgot to ask her something, you can still text her and she will
get back to you quickly with a recorded explanation or she will send you some charts that will help you understand the material better. She has fit me in during the middle of the week (outside of our regularly scheduled time) in order to help reinforce hard concepts I had just learned. Working with Nancy has certainly helped build confidence for test day.”

Nancy is a tutor extraordinaire. Her depth of knowledge is indeed remarkable, outstanding and exceptional. This is evident in the way she makes connections between different aspects of the study material. She facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the content thus helping students see the bigger picture without having to cram. Being a phenomenal test taker herself, she is able to teach students how to identify and avoid making the common mistakes in tests. Nancy is very thorough while focusing on high yield concepts. This has been pivotal to my success in tutoring sessions. I have known her for quite a while now and she has been consistent in her passion for helping students succeed. Above all, she is kind, thoughtful, approachable and fun to be with. Her personality creates a positive learning environment that has proven beneficial to many.

“Medical school is very hard…let us just start there. I am not a type of person to reach out for tutoring, never did through out my career and went by just fine. I met Nancy in my first semester at SGU and honestly she has been my light through all of this. She was very helpful and it surprised me how one student could hold so much knowledge and even more explain it well to others. She really simplifies all the concepts and takes time making sure you understand all the little and big details. She makes connections much easier and she just generally makes medical school less hard. I am glad I decided to do the one on one tutoring…it already has made a difference on how I study and how I approach USMLE questions.”

“Nancy is by far one of the best tutors that I have worked with. Not only is she flexible with her schedule but she also designs a study plan that caters to your personal needs. She takes the time to answer all your questions thoroughly and in-depth. She is a big advocate for active learning which has helped with my confidence and performance overall as a medical student. “

"I received tutoring from Nancy for over 4 months, and I couldn’t have been happier with my decision to have her on board throughout my Step 1 Journey! The study process for this exam is no different than training for a marathon, so it was great to have an amazing coach to keep me motivated to keep moving and improve my score. In just 18 hours of total instruction not only did she train me to manage my study schedule and read clinical vignettes faster, but she also helped me isolate/strengthen my weaker areas in each of the systems and thus helped me raise my score over 30 points! What Nancy offers is an inspiration for her students to take a bold step out of their comfort zone to reach their academic goals. Her individualization, passion, and dedication for each of her students is something that you do not come by with many tutors. Nancy is a great choice not only from an academic aspect, but from an uplifting aspect as well and trust me, this is crucial for an exam of this level of importance. As Oprah Winfrey once said, “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the higher part of yourself when sometimes it becomes hidden to your own view.” Anybody could spend time going over this material if they know it well, but Nancy takes it a step further and you will not regret your decision to have her join you on this journey."
